This is an experimental feature currently offered for free. Based on your feedback, we’ll decide whether to make it a permanent part of the app. Please note that usage may be limited and results could be unpredictable. Thank you for your understanding and input as we continue to improve it.
The AI-powered image recognition feature helps you:
- Quickly create product entries by taking a photo
- Automatically extract product names from images
- Suggest appropriate categories based on visual analysis
- Recommend measurement units for products
- Fill in custom text fields when visible in the image
- Speed up inventory data entry significantly
How to Use Image Recognition
From the Mobile App (Android/iOS)
- Navigate to your Products list
- Tap the “+” button to add a new product
- Look for the camera icon or “Add from Image” option
- Take a photo or select an existing image from your gallery
- Wait for the AI to process the image (you’ll see a scanning animation)
- Review and edit the extracted information:
- Product Name: The AI’s best guess at the product name
- Category: Suggested from your existing categories or a new one
- Measurement Unit: Recommended unit based on the product type
- Custom Fields: Any text fields the AI could extract
- Make any necessary corrections and save the product
What the AI Looks For
The image recognition system analyzes your photo to identify:
Product Information
- Visible Text: Product names, labels, and branding
- Product Type: Visual characteristics to determine category
- Physical Attributes: Size indicators, packaging type, etc.
- Custom Field Data: Any visible information matching your custom fields (like color, brand, model)
Smart Category Matching
The AI considers your existing categories (up to 15) and will:
- Match to an existing category if it’s a clear fit
- Suggest a new category in a similar style if none match
- Never force an incorrect match (e.g., won’t categorize a paper cup as “Computer Peripherals”)
Best Practices for Image Capture
For Best Results:
- Good Lighting: Ensure the product is well-lit
- Clear Focus: Make sure text and labels are readable
- Full Product View: Include the entire product in frame
- Minimal Background: Use a plain background when possible
- Multiple Products: The AI can identify multiple products in one image
Language Support
The AI automatically detects your app’s language setting and provides results in that language. Product names, categories, and all extracted information will match your configured language.
Limitations and Known Issues
- Processing Time: Image analysis has a 5-second timeout
- Accuracy Varies: Results depend on image quality and product visibility
- Text Fields Only: Custom fields extraction works only for text-type fields
- Maximum Categories: Only your first 15 categories are considered for matching
- Maximum Units: Only your first 15 measurement units are considered
- No Offline Support: Requires internet connection for AI processing
- Images are compressed before processing to optimize performance
